Kids & Nature

In today's post intern Samantha Tank is talking about the importance of introducing children to nature at an early age! She also talks all about our Nature Day Camps here at Fenner Nature Center!

Spending time in the outdoors and interacting with nature helps to promote healthy development and builds self-esteem in children and teens.  Ninety-two percent of campers surveyed by the American Canoe Association (ACA) say, “Camp helped me feel good about myself” and seventy percent of camp parents say, “My child gain self-confidence at camp” (ACA, 2005).

Fenner is a place where families can find fun outdoor activities year round! Don’t let the cold weather keep you inside – there are still plenty of things to do and see in nature! The trails at Fenner are a great place for hiking, bird watching, or even just a nice place to walk the dog.

Once the kids are out of school for the summer, parents are faced with the problem of looking of summer activities. Day camps are a fun way to get the kids out of the house and engaged in nature. With so many day camp options, it is hard to know where to go! Fenner offers summer day camps for Pre-K up to 5th grade that are fun, convenient, and affordable.
